About Us
The St. Johnsbury Swim Club is a registered USA Swimming Club and is incorporated as a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation. The 2010-2011 Season will be the fifth year of operation for the club, but our first as a full member of USA Swimming.
Our head coach is Andy Barter. Andy is a High School Science and Mathematics Teacher at the Caledonia School in St. Johnsbury, and has been swimming competitively since he was 8 years of age. He is an ASCA and USA Swimming Certified Coach, and has been Red Cross Sports-Safety Trained, including Lifeguarding, CPR and First Aid. Andy continues to swim competitively, with his most recent competition as the 10-mile Kingdom Swim. He managed Lifeguarding and Aquatic Staff at the University of Vermont, and also coached an 80-member Swim Team in Amherst, NH, for four years.
In addition to his love of swimming, Andy also demonstrates a commitment to community service. He has served as the President and a member of the Board of Directors of the Northeast Kingdom Chamber of Commerce, the Zoning & Planning Board Secretary for the town of Danville, and is currently serving as the Treasurer and a member of the Board of Directors for Northeast Kingdom Human Services.
About USA Swimming
USA Swimming is the National Governing Body for the sport of swimming in the U.S. It is a 300,000 member service organization that promotes the culture of swimming by creating opportunities for swimmers of all backgrounds to participate and advance through clubs, events and education.
The membership is comprised of swimmers from youth up through the Olympic Team, as well as coaches and volunteers. USA Swimming is responsible for selecting and training teams for international competitions such as the Olympic Games, and strives to serve the sport through 3 core objectives: build the base, promote the sport, and achieve competitive success.
